PERMETHRIN INSECTICIDE TREATMENT 

Permethrin is a contact insecticide (not a repellent), useful for treating

• mosquito nets
• bed sheet of campers
• clothing -T shirts, jeans etc.

Permethrin is safe, colourless, odourless; is stable; adheres well to fabric; survives 5-10 washing's in hot or cold water; but is not recommended for skin application. It can be obtained from camping stores, agricultural suppliers (cheapest) and chemists. Brand names are:

• Ambush 50% concentrate (ICI)
• Perigen 500 (Wellcome)
• 25 GM powder sachets (Wellcome)

Follow directions on the packet

eg (6 mls of concentrate) or (half a 25 GM sachet) to 150 mls of water
Pour over net or clothing placed in plastic bucket and knead (wear gloves)
Dry on clothes line and iron if necessary.
