Chicken Pox vaccines .. Chickenpox can be serious

Varilrix

 Children: 0.5cc IMI upper arm 9 months - 12 years (88% efficacy for complete prevention & 100% against severe illness ie. > 30 lesions)
Adolescents and adults - further 0.5cc 6 weeks later. (75.9% protection)
Side effects: infrequent & mild (NB. Has been used regularly for 20 years in Japan)

Varivax®II (new release CSL)

Children: 0.5cc subcutaneously upper arm 12months - 12 years (97% seroconversion at 4 to 6 weeks post vaccination)
Adolescents & Adults - 13 years and older: - 2 doses (2nd dose 4 to 8 weeks after 1st dose)
seroconversion approx 75% at 4 weeks after 1st dose, and 99% at 4 weeks after 2nd dose.
Side effects: fever - 10 to 15%; sore arm - 20 to 30%; varicella rash - 2 to 5 lesions in 3.8 to 5.4% (all ages)
