Changed childhood immunisation schedule from 1 March 2008

Due to a manufacturing problem in the USA, CSL/Merck have advised that Comvax & Pedvax vaccines will be out of stock from March until the end of 2008. As a result Victoria will have to change the childhood immunisation schedule from 1 March 2008 for infants at 2, 4, 6 and 12 months. Infanrix-IPV will be replaced by Infanrix hexa (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hepatitis B and HIB) for babies due for their 2, 4 and 6 month old vaccines. Babies who have had Infanrix hexa as a primary dose/s and are due for their 12 month old vaccines will be given Hiberix (HIB). From 1 March 2008 remaining Comvax supplies will be used only for babies turning 12 months of age who have already commenced on the Infanrix-IPV (2, 4 and 6 months) and Comvax (2 and 4 months) schedule.

Information Management

Medical Director Tip - Reprinting recall lists

Sometimes you need to reprint a recall list for a given period, after you have previously clicked on the “Update” or “Remove” buttons. To do this you need to set up the recall criteria gain but make sure that you place a tick in the “Include already recalled” box. This will re-generate the list. If you are re-generating the list at a later date select “Other” from the Select Interval panel and use the From and To calendars to backdate the period of the recall.

This weeks IM problem

Question: The batch number for immunisations used to automatically appear. I have moved to a new practice and I now have to type in the batch number each time. How do I fix this?

Answer: The first time, or for a new batch you need to type in the batch number. Once this is done, if it is a childhood immunisation click on the “Record Batch Number” box. For other immunisations click on the “Store batch No” box. MD will then “remember” to autofill the batch number for subsequent immunisations. Remember however to check that the autofilled batch number is correct.

Humour

God works in mysterious ways

A woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday morning. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them is hurt.

After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, "So you're a man, that's interesting. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends for the rest of our days".

Flattered, the man replies, "Oh yes, I agree with you completely, this must be a sign from God!"

The woman continues, "And look at this, here's another miracle my car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune."

Then she hands the bottle to the man. The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle and immediately puts the cap back on.

The man asks, "Aren't you having any?"

The woman replies, "No. I think I'll just wait for the police...."
