Information Management

Medical Director Tip - Hiding the screen quickly

For privacy reasons you often want to hide your screen. A very simple way is to press the Window key + M – this hides all open programs and shows the desktop (The Window key is also known as the Start key on the keyboard). This is a Windows shortcut, not specific to any program. Remember in Medical Director 2, if you want to instantly hide and password protect a patient record you press Control+Backspace.

This weeks IM problem - Patient’s progress notes placed in wrong patient record

Question: I accidently recorded a progress note in the wrong patient record. I discovered this a week later. How do I fix this?

Answer: This is such a frequently asked question that it is worth repeating.

1. Open the record of the “wrong” patient and go to Progress Notes. Open the “incorrect” progress note, highlight the text and press Control + C (to copy the text).

2. Open the “right” patient and go to Progress Notes. Do a Control + V to paste the notes into the current progress note. Change the Consultation date to the date of the previous week’s consultation.

3. Go back to the “wrong” patient and go to Progress Notes. Click once on the “incorrect” progress note and press the Delete key on the keyboard – this will remove that progress note.

Nurse Pap Test Providers thrive in General Practice – scholarships available

Latest data from the Victorian Cervical Cytology Registry* show more than 40 per cent of Pap tests taken by nurses in 2007 were through General Practice, up 9.1 per cent from the previous year. This significant increase highlights the growing role of nurses in General Practice and the need for more nurses to become Pap test providers. PapScreen Victoria is offering scholarships of up to $1000 (inc GST) for Victorian nurses who wish to become Pap test providers. Applicants must be Division 1 Registered nurses who are able to commence an accredited Royal College of Nursing Australia (RNCA) Pap test Provider Training Course in 2008. To apply nurses need a letter from their employer showing support of the course, as well as their commitment to allowing on the job training upon completion of the course. It is expected successful applicants will become credentialled Pap test providers when they finish the Pap test Provider Training Course. Applications close: Friday 6 June 2008. For scholarship application forms and guidelines, information about RCNA accredited nurse Pap test training courses, credentialing and re-credentialing, please visit the health professionals section of the PapScreen Victoria website at www.papscreen.org.au.

Humour

An Irishman was terribly overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet.
“I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least 5 pounds.”
When the Irishman returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60lbs!
Why, that's amazing!” the doctor said, “Did you follow my instructions?”
The Irishman nodded...”I'll tell you though, by jaesuz, I t'aut I were going to drop dead on dat 3rd day.”
From the hunger, you mean?” asked the doctor
No, from the f**kin' skippin.”
