A Word from the Editor

Division’s 20th AGM – The last Hurrah? And you are invited!!

We would love you to come and join us to celebrate what could well be the last of the division’s Annual General Meetings. We will toast our 20 years of service to the general practice community with cocktails, drinks, a light self-service buffet and some entertainment (if you call Noel entertainment!). This promises to be a relaxed, friendly and informal social occasion. If you haven’t received your invitation contact the division.

Wednesday 20th November 7:30 – 9:pm at John Scott Meeting house, La Trobe University (entry via Car Park 7).

PIP eHealth

We provide the following information as a friendly reminder about the upcoming eligibility timeframe for the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) eHealth Incentive.

As part of the 5 requirements of eligibility for PIP, Requirement 2 (Secure Messaging Capability) mentions that a practice “must have a standards-compliant secure messaging capability to electronically transmit and receive clinical messages to and from other healthcare providers, use it where feasible, and have a written policy to encourage its use in place”. The division website has a draft secure messaging policy on its website.

To meet this requirement practices must have had a secure messaging product installed by 1st August with the commissioning deadline extended to the 31st October 2013.  While many practices have already completed the commissioning process it may be worthwhile confirming your PIP  compliance - we recommend you email or call the PIP enquiry line on 1800 222 032 (call charges apply from mobile phones) Monday to Friday, between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm AEST. Note that the PIP Guidelines are available at .

Don’t forget – the Northern Melbourne Medicare Local is funded to provide assistance for the PIP eHealth initiative and the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record.

Information Management

This week’s MD problem - Incorrectly spelt specialist

Question:  One of our staff has typed in the incorrect specialist category, “pyhsiotherapist” instead of “Physiotherapist”. How do I fix it?

Answer: First of all you shouldn’t allow free typing into the Category section of the Address Book, rather you should select from the drop down list. If a category is not in a drop down list you need to add it, using Tools >Options >Lists > Address book categories. But, to fix your problem, do the following:

1.      Open you Address book and double click on the “incorrect” listing so you can edit the details.

2.      Click on the drop down arrow next to Category and select the correctly spelt entry.

General Computer Tip - Using styles

Word has its own inbuilt styles which you will see at the top of the screen as Normal, Heading 1, Heading 2 etc. It makes it much easier and your work more consistent if you use these. If you want to see all the styles that are available, click on the little arrow under the Change Styles button and then click on Options. Under the Select styles to show: select All styles.
